The Drug War is a Bust

    2007 - 11.24

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

We’re prerecording this weekend’s program so we can take time off for our great national thankful pig-out.

As we’ve said before, the country is glutted with laws and regulations, and it’s impossible for us to know and keep them all.
The war on drugs, for example, has resulted in thousands of prosecutions, a glut in prison populations, confiscation of property, log jams in the courts, and corruption of law enforcement and the judiciary, while doing nothing to stop the flow of drugs.

A growing chorus of police officials, prosecutors and judges want reform in the nation’s drug laws.  Retired police officer Howard Wooldridge from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (www.leap.cc) explains why they hold this position.

    Then, we’ll continue the "if-you’re-not-doing-anything-wrong-you
have-nothing-to-worry-about" thread.  Joe Baker from www.liveoffensively.org returns to SOS with a tale of his recent scrape with the law; all over nothing but an overly aggressive policeman.

John’s boralogue analyzes half-truths in statements made during the recent presidential debates.  As the country hurtles towards political and financial crises, one can’t avoid the impression the inmates are running the asylum.

    Revisiting McCarthyism

    2007 - 11.17

The career of former Senator Joseph McCarthy has been used as an example of unconstitutional witch hunting run amok.  But rarely do we hear that — even as newspaperman Carl Bernstein admitted — McCarthy was right: the place really was crawling with communists and newly-revealed  documents prove it.  M. Stanton Evans, author of "Blacklisted by History," guests first today with fascinating details about McCarthy’s career.

Then it’s back to the study-versus-study wars in disputes about the relationship between breast cancer and abortion.  Another major medical study demonstrating this connection has been ignored by the mainline media. Karen Malec of www.abortionbreastcancer.com joins us.

John’s boralogue questions how the government will handle the financial crises almost on our horizon, using examples from Ayn Rand’s famous book, "Atlas Shrugged."

    A Nation of Sheep

    2007 - 11.10

People on the left and right are aware that something is running amiss with their government as its form is changed without their consent.  Two guests address this issue today:

First, Judge Andrew Napolitano of Fox News and author of, "A Nation of Sheep," returns to the program with a lucid examination of the constitutional battering underway right now and how we’re putting the republic in jeopardy.

Then Pat Wood from www.augustreview.com follows Judge Napolitano discussing the new phenomenon of people from both the left and right banding together in common cause to fight off what they realize is a common threat to their freedoms.

John’s boralogue continues coverage of the ongoing monetary crisis as a precursor to the perfect financial storm, and the latest "peace process," doomed to disaster before it even gets started.

    The Law of Unintended Consequences

    2007 - 11.03

There are 367 days in the silly season before the next national elections.

The U.S. drowns in too many laws and regulations.  Everyday thousands of well-intentioned Americans violate these without even realizing it and there are so many statutes, it’s impossible to know and keep them all.  These statutes contribute in large measure to the death of freedom.

A percentage of people become entangled in "the machine" of bureaucrats seeking fines and prison sentences.  You really think, "If you aren’t doing anything wrong, you have nothing to worry about?"  It’s naive nonsense.

John’s extended boralogue details actual cases of people who were inadvertently sucked into "the system."  Then attorney Mike Donnelly from Home School Legal Defense (www.hslda.org) joins us to add more.

Finally, we’ll dovetail the plethora of laws and regulations into the discussion we began recently about why doctors don’t want to accept Medicare.  We’d better think about this before implementing socialized medicine in this country.  Robert Shillingstad joins us.
