It’s Showdown time in the Middle East Again

I’m John Loeffler at steelonsteel.com and here’s how it seems to me.

The Middle East chessboard has been rapidly changing due to the so-called Arab spring, which seems to be forming, in reality, an Arab winter. The governments of countries surrounding Israel are increasingly being taken over by groups hostile to Israel. In Lebanon, in the north, the terrorist group Hezbollah now has control of Lebanon’s government instead of just control of the southern border of the country.

Along the south in Gaza, the terrorist group Hamas has free movement of materials like war supplies and; Hamas is now a major partner in the peace negotiations if you can call them that. In Egypt itself, the elections in September have a high probability of putting in power representatives of the Muslim Brotherhood, which means that Egypt will become increasingly hostile towards Israel.

You see, at a time when the threat level against Israel is rising rapidly, instead of standing with Israel, the Obama administration is badgering Israel into accepting the old, indefensible pre-1967 borders as a starting point for restarting the long-dead peace process.

But how can you even restart a peace process, when one of the negotiating partners, Hamas, refuses to reject its call for the destruction of Israel? The world itself is heading towards a major energy crisis and conflict in the Middle-East region which will involve most of the first world countries.  If there ever were a time to pray for the peace of Jerusalem this is it.

I’m John Loeffler at steelonsteel.com and that’s how it seems to me.

    Showdown in the Middle East

    2011 - 06.25

    Showdown in the Middle East

We’ll start SOS today by converting the boralogue into a Middle East update.

This September forecasts two elections which will affect the future of Israel: (1) The Palestinians are pushing for a United Nations declaration of statehood, creating a country of Palestine. If this unilateral move succeeds, Israel may be accused of occupying a member state’s territory with various types of sanctions taken against it. (2) Egypt is holding presidential and parliamentary elections where the Muslim Brotherhood may be the winner.

At the same time Israel is being squeezed into a corner. As the Arab spring turns into an Arab winter, countries surrounding Israel are becoming increasingly radicalized and supporting terrorist groups. This is simultaneous with the Obama administration’s efforts to coerce Israel into accepting indefensible pre-1967 borders as a basis for peace process negotiations. Columnist Caroline Glick (www.carolineglick.com) from the Jerusalem Post guests.

We’ll start a new threat entitled, “Disturbing Trends,” changes which affect our rights. Today we’ll examine the recently-expanded FBI powers. Attorney Angel Reyes (www.angelreyesblog.com) joins us from Dallas, Texas.

Finally there’s a new movement within Christianity to promote what is called “theistic evolution.” Are these two things really compatible? Dr. Jay Richards from the Discovery Institute (www.discovery.org) addressed this rising issue

    It’s All Cash Flow, Dummy!

    2011 - 06.18

    It’s All Cash Flow, Dummy!

Well there were more “celebrations” in Greece this week as austerity program riots struck that country again. Funny thing, but the U.S. situation is far worse. So is Greece a coming attraction trailer for what will happen here? This week we’ll hyper-focus on monetary considerations that may help us answer that question.

Well is there or is there not a social security trust fund? Dr. Merrill Matthews, Ph.D., from the Institute for Policy Innovation (www.ipi.org) returns to the program to connect a series of dots which paint the real picture of social security and Medicare.

Then Dr. Tamzin Rosenwasser, M.D., from the American Association of Physicians and Surgeons (www.aapsonline.org) rejoins the show. We’ll connect the illusions of Obamacare funding to the larger economic crises heading our way. Politicians’ projections always rotate around projected budgetary conditions, which never materialize.

John’s boralogue connects a debate between C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud with the reasons western countries are in such terrible economic shape. We didn’t arrive here overnight and the drumbeats of progressive socialism played a major role in setting us up for the situation in which we find ourselves.

Lessons for America from Ancient Rome

    2011 - 06.11

Lessons for America from Ancient Rome

Our politicos tell us they feel the pain of the unemployed and then do their best to burden the principle creators of those jobs: small business. Brett McMahon is vice president of Miller and Long Concrete Construction and a spokesman for (www.HaltTheAssault.com).

So Republicans are throwing Granny from the cliff by trying to fend off disaster in Medicare, according to Democrats. Actually thehealthcare bill threw Granny off the cliff. Now the goal is to catch her before she hits bottom. Devon Herrick from the national Center for Policy Analysis (www.ncpa.com) explains how the new healthcare is being partially funded by robbing Medicare.

Finally we’ll examine comparisons between the collapse of ancient Rome and America today. Economics professor Dr. Ileana Johnson (www.romanianconservative.blogspot.com) grew up in communist Romania. She paints the parallels and also explains why socialism and socialist medicine is a really bad idea, having experienced both first-hand.

John’s boralogue describes the tendencies of millenials to examine truth in the light of a collective consensus rather than based on the merits of facts. This is leading to generational warfare in the United States, all rotating around the definition of the word “entitlement.”

    What Transparency in Healthcare?

    2011 - 06.04

    What Transparency in Healthcare?

Many healthcare promises are already failing even before the Obamacare system gets started, and wait until the American public sees all the new taxes starting in 2013.

One of the early healthcare casualties seems to be transparency in medical pricing. Dr. Tamzin Rosenwasser, M.D., from the American Association of Physicians and Surgeons (www.aapsonline.org) relates how we are transferring serious problems from Medicare right into the new healthcare system.

A small group of environmentalists are posing as evangelicals to impose pantheism and social gospel precepts on evangelical churches with biblical-sounding language. Paul Chesser is Executive Director of the American Tradition Institute (www.atinstitute.org). His articles appear in “The American Spectator” (www.spectator.org).

John does a Middle East update in the last part of the program, followed by more of the conversation we began last week with Mitch and Machelle Wright about the origins of global education.
