The Deal of the Century – the new Israeli-Palestinian peace plan – has been proposed, but what is the hang up? In this week’s boralogue, John looks at the need for a viable peace partner. He shows how both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas have not exhibited a willingness over the years to work toward peace with Israel. Whether or not they cooperate, the peace train may soon leave the station. And Palestinian leadership may wish they would have boarded.

Gerard LameiroSocialism has never been successfully implemented simply because it can’t be. Author and political forecaster Gerard Lameiro (www.greatnewsforamerica.com) is back with us to discuss several examples of failed socialist governments and how it only stays afloat when capitalism supports it behind the scenes. He also gives his predictions for the 2020 election and the future of the Democrat Party.

Howard HusockSocialism isn’t the only example of government interference and dysfunction. Howard Husock (www.civilsocietyawards.com), Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, describes how federal dollars from our government have changed the character of local civil organizations away from grassroots values and serving the community.

Andrea Picotti-BayerSeparation of church and state has been overused in legal arguments and somewhat misunderstood overall. We round out the show this week with Andrea Picciotti-Bayer (www.thecatholicassociation.org), Legal Advisor for the Catholic Association, who examines the Blaine Amendment in relation to public funding for Catholic schools.

John’s quote of the week:
What happens with socialism is you have big amounts of money, bureaucrats see it, they use giving to XYZ impoverished group as the rationale for taking it. They then seize the money, usually through taxation or other means. They take a huge chunk for themselves. Then they pass along a fraction of what they’ve seized and give it to the target group. That’s the immorality of the system.

On this week’s extra segment, we play a double feature on the European Union from days of Steel past. First up is Robert Congdon from February 2012 followed by Pat Caddell from June 2018. Both give predictions about the future of the EU and it’s interesting to see the difference in opinions that six years makes.

Correcting the Record

Freedoms of the press and of speech are foundationally important to America. In this week’s boralogue, John looks at the mainstream media’s push to silence anyone who contradicts their narrative. Politicians and media outlets have also begun inaccurately retelling history. We have to correct the record when this happens. We don’t violate freedom of speech or freedom of the press by doing this; we uphold them.

What is actually happening in the Gaza Strip and what is being reported in the media are two very different things. Barbara Kay (www.nationalpost.com), Columnist with the National Post, corrects the record, covering what Hamas leadership really did after Israel pulled out in 2005 and how the area has fared since. She also gives her views on the possible Deal of the Century peace plan.

The Communist Chinese government has started trying to influence the content of sermons. Gina Goh (www.persecution.org), Southeast Asia Regional Manager for International Christian Concern, examines how the topic of socialism will potentially be extolled from the pulpit in some Chinese state churches.

The Province of Quebec has passed Bill 21 outlawing religious symbols, including clothing, in the public sector. Michael Higgins (www.sacredheart.edu), Professor of Catholic Thought at Sacred Heart University, joins us to discuss the politics surrounding Bill 21, including conflicts between Quebec and the Canadian national government and the potential difficulty in enforcing the bill.

John’s quote of the week:
History is a lot more complex than people today would like to think. When you look at things in historical context, they do not match what we are being fed today as history. We have to correct the facts of history in the context of history. That is what freedom of the press and freedom of speech is all about.

In this week’s Extras segment, we fire up the way back machine and play a double dose of extended boralogues, one from January 2009, the other from August 2014. Both boralogues feature John’s analysis of Israel and Gaza from each of those times. One thing is for certain: the more things change, the more they stay the same.
