Happy New Year! We begin 2017 with a look at the fake news phenomenon. In this week’s boralogue, John points out the hypocrisy of those who believe in relative truth but are outraged by fake news and shows how Martin Luther, the Renaissance, and the last 500 years have led to better access and control of information.

Dutch politician Geert Wilders was recently found guilty of violating his country’s hate speech laws. William Watkins (www.independent.org), Research Fellow at the Independence Institute, shows that hate speech laws are purposefully vague and references the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798 to show that it has happened in the U.S. before.

Will the Trump administration stick to its campaign promises in regards to education? Alex Newman (www.thenewamerican.com), Correspondent for The New American, looks at the need for education reform, including an overhaul of Common Core, and how Trump’s pick of Becky Devos for Education Secretary most likely means reform is out for now.

Will the United States be ready should an EMP destroy our electric grid. Bill Forstchen (www.onesecondafter.com), History Professor at Montreat College, discusses the threat of EMP, preparedness by not only individuals but also government, and his belief that the Trump administration will take the threat seriously.

Finally, is it worth trying to evangelize to people who are militantly atheist, especially on the internet? London-based Baptist Minister Mark Woods (www.christiantoday.com), advises that while trolls can discourage, there is always someone out there who gets the message. Time management and self-discipline are key elements when engaging others.

John’s quote of the week:
“The idea of the Christian humanists was that every human being has inherent dignity before God and being personally responsible before God for his or her conduct. That caused radical changes in western civilization; the idea of individual ability and individual responsibility.”

What is driving the conflicts we’ve seen in the past few weeks in France, Germany, Baton Rouge and Orlando? In this week’s boralogue, John examines common threads through these tragedies and shows that in order to solve the problem, we need to stop listening to politically correct elites and focus on the truth: we have a morality problem and a collision of worldviews.

Is the narrative from Black Lives Matter accurate? Heather MacDonald (www.manhattan-institute.org), Fellow at the Manhattan Institute reveals statistics which challenge the account that white police officers are the most dangerous threat to black men today. In fact, African-Americans are much more likely to die from violence in their own communities than in officer-related shootings.

John plays a clip of Dave McAlvany and Kevin Orrick (www.mcalvany.com) from the McAlvany Weekly Commentary where they discuss the possibility that the failed coup in Turkey was orchestrated by President Erdogan to gain a more powerful hold on the country.

Is it a surprise that the EU is floundering under its own weight on a flimsy foundation? Wallace Henley (www.wallacehenley.net), Senior Pastor at Second Baptist Church in Houston, TX discusses how Christianity was purposefully left out of the EU’s formation and how institutions that cater to political correctness are drowning out the Christian worldview today.

Finally this week, we welcome back Bill Forstchen (www.dayofwrathbook.com), History Professor at Montreat College, who analyzes not only the suppression of freedom of speech and thought on undergraduate and college campuses, but also the dangers of ISIS and our unpreparedness as a country to handle their terror campaign.

John’s quote of the week:
“The violence and the murders that you are seeing must be dealt with at the morality and worldview levels, but those are the very areas where the politically correct crowd will not allow us to go.”

It’s becoming clearer who the two candidates for U.S. president are going to be this fall. With all the campaign nonsense being discussed, we have to ask: is this the best we can do? In this week’s boralogue, John looks at serious issues facing the planet, including the upcoming Israeli-Palestinian peace summit and political reactions from Europe to Israel to Russia. Whoever our next president is will need to ignore the nonsense and address these sober matters.

War in Syria has raged for many years now, but do we really know what’s happening on the ground there? Jonathan Spyer (www.rubincenter.org), Director of the Rubin Center for Research in International Affairs, has covered the Syrian war from the beginning and discusses the transition from battling a brutal regime to more sectarian violence as well as the possibility of independence for the Kurdish people.

How do politically correct leftists get around that pesky First Amendment to shut down free speech? In a second boralogue, John examines consensus thinking, self-censorship, and using institutional racism as a way to inhibit speech. Free speech is under attack. We need to tell those attacking it that we will not sit down and we will not shut up!

Could we be heading for some cold times ahead, despite the constant trumpeting of global warming activists? We welcome back John Casey (www.veritence.net), President of Veritence Corporation, who reveals that in the next 25-30 years, we will see record low energy output from the sun, decreasing temperatures, which will affect not only crops, but also the frequency of earthquakes and volcanic activity.

John’s quote of the week:
“Bear in mind that the people today telling us that we have to self-sensor when we talk about Islam or some other minority group, is the same group that had open season on Christianity in academia and the media for the last 50 years.”

Socialism is gaining popularity in the United States, from Bernie Sanders hawking free everything and demanding higher taxes to university curricula disparaging capitalism. In this week’s boralogue, John looks deeper at socialism and asks: why, after failing every time it has been implemented, would anyone ever consider it a viable option? Socialist regimes bemoan capitalism at every turn but ultimately seek it out when all the money runs dry. America needs to stand up now and shout down this failed system!

Chinese communist leaders are continuing a campaign of religious persecution across their country. Bob Fu (www.chinaaid.org), Founder and President of China Aid Association, examines the government’s motivations and shows that even legally sanctioned Christian churches are experiencing forced confessions, jail time, and even death.

Non-Muslims in Pakistan are persecuted as well through their dangerous blasphemy laws. Author and blogger Shamila Ghyas (www.twitter.com/ShamilaGhyas) gives examples of the laws’ power and goes on to explain that most Muslims are non-violent and need stand up to the extremists.

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador on April 16th, killing hundreds and injuring thousands. Wayne Stauble, a real estate developer in the country, describes the devastating aftermath of the quake and the need for preparedness in a time of crisis. Our prayers go out to those in Ecuador.

Finally, what exactly happened to Malaysian Airlines flight 370 in March 2014? H. Richard Austin (www.thecomingofarmageddon.com), financial analyst and author of The Coming of Armageddon, analyzes factual evidence of what happened to the flight and proposes that the plane was hijacked for future use in a terrorist event.

John’s quote of the week:
“The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of somebody else’s money. Socialism has never survived by itself and has always had to turn to capitalism to bail itself out.”
