Socialism: In a Class by Itself

You have to ask critical questions in order to cut through the noise and get to the bottom of any issue. In this week’s boralogue, John looks at several news stories – protests in Ecuador, global warming outrage, calling out hate speech – and asks the critical question in each instance. Once you know what to watch for, getting at the real issue underneath the noise is easy. It’s also essential.

Matthew BunsonThe Amazon Synod is underway in Rome but what is it exactly? Dr. Matthew Bunson (www.ncregister.com), Faculty Chair at Catholic Distance University, joins us to explain the different issues expected to be discussed at the Synod as well as the possibility of certain Catholic traditions being altered.

Richard ThompsonA Christian high school student was told to either recite the Islamic conversion creed for her history class or receive a failing grade. Richard Thompson (www.thomasmore.org), President and Chief Legal Counsel for Thomas More Law Center, discusses the ensuing legal case against the school and points out the double standard behind allowing Islam in schools but not Christianity.

Dr. Ileana JohnsonCollectivism has invaded the classroom in the form of socialist-themed textbooks. Dr. Ileana Johnson (www.ileanajohnson.com), speaker and freelance writer at Canadian Free Press, examines how socialists have infiltrated our education system and shows how history is being revised in America’s schools away from a fact-based curriculum and toward a more globalist feelings-based narrative.

Michael BuslerHas Google cornered the online search market? Is Facebook an internet commons or is it a platform? Michael Busler (www.stockton.edu), Professor of Finance at Stockton University, dives into these questions and asserts that since Google has a stranglehold on online searches, they are able to influence us in retail spaces and even possibly in the voting booth.

John’s quote of the week:
Here’s the killer question: who gets to determine what is and what is not hate speech or disinformation? They inevitably say that it will be a consortium of ‘experts’ or those who supposedly do fact checking. But the real answer you cannot get. And that’s why you never ever want to prevent free speech. It’s totalitarians who are always trying to muzzle free speech – unless of course it’s their speech.

In this week’s Extras segment, we play John’s boralogue, an interview with Art Crino, and a part of a speech John gave at a Steeling the Mind conference – all from the August 13, 2011 episode of Steel. Marxism, Saul Alinsky, and radical changes in America are all discussed.

Silence by Any Means

Eventually, reality becomes real and illusion fades into obscurity. In this week’s boralogue, John looks at different ways the progressive elitists are manipulating facts and, at times, using force to define the playing field in order to avoid debating. Begging the question and the heckler’s veto are two examples of the Left trying to silence dissent. The real battle is over truth and they will fight you with half-truths, incomplete truths, and even outright lies.

Environmentalist and author Tim Ball (www.drtimball.com) has been trying for years to debate the consensus thought on climate change and his detractors have used many means, including lawfare, to attempt to silence him. Dr. Ball describes his ordeal fighting three separate lawsuits meant to bankrupt him and shut him up. The assault on free speech has hit the courtroom.

One example of the heckler’s veto occurred recently in the upper Midwest when progressive groups forced conference centers to cancel already booked events. John Guandolo (www.understandingthethreat.com), President and Founder of Understanding the Threat and a speaker at one of those events, discusses how he and others had planned to educate people about Islam but certain groups didn’t want the information made public.

Have we seen this silencing of speech before? Stephen Halbrook (www.independent.org), Senior Fellow at the Independent Institute, joins us to examine the rise of the Nazi party in the 1930s and their tactics to suppress free speech and confiscate weapons. They ran into problems later, though, in France when pockets of resistance sprang up.

John’s quote of the week:
People with losing arguments – if they have to resort to logical fallacies, if they have to resort to force and heckling because their arguments can’t stand up to the other side, they only have one choice left: keep people from speaking.

In this week’s Section 6, John plays a clip of Diamond and Silk testifying before Congress and looks at different ways social media sites are trying to silence politically incorrect speech. He covers the SPLC’s history of designating hate groups and how they are scaling that back after some pushback. He finishes up with the “new liberal order” spoken about by Emmanuel Macron in his speech before Congress this week.

When Reality Becomes Real

When reality sets in, politicians panic, because that’s when politics-as-usual disintegrates in the face of an onrushing crisis.

During the endgame of inflationary policy, revenues fall and governments respond by pushing tax rates to the firewall, causing revenues to plummet even further; a lesson governments like the state of California never seem to learn. Tom Giovanetti from the Institute for Policy Innovation (www.ipi.org) explains why soak-the-rich schemes always fail, while impoverishing the middle class at the same time.

Then we’ll pursue the current monetary situation in Europe with David McAlvany from the McAlvany Weekly Commentary (www.mcalvany.com).

Naomi Schaefer Riley was canned off the “Chronicle of Higher Education” blog after she made politically incorrect statements about race studies programs at universities. Academia is becoming the most closed-minded environment in the western world. We’ll discuss the implications of this as well as Naomi’s subsequent op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal entitled, “The Academic Mob Rules.”

We’ve often spoken how the consensus process (Delphi Technique) involves the use of change agent facilitators. When the process starts, the outcome is predetermined, but the participants don’t know that. Mesa County, Colorado, just discovered this the hard way. We’ll run clips from a Colorado radio program to demonstrate the point.

John’s boralogue points out that there really was never any doubt where everything would wind up once the Euro crisis began, placing us at the leading edge of much bigger storms to come. Once on a tax-inflate-spend money train, governments can’t get off the wild ride until the train finally goes off a trestle. Today we’ll give you a road map of the exciting journey upon which we find ourselves.
